With the known guideline the use of rail lengths is provided as follows: • Complete tracks - basically rails > 100 m length (the theme bearing length and so the delivery here is not tangent; only the installation length is provided). v > 230 km/h - exclusive tracks of bearing lengths > 100 m 200 ≤ v ≤ 230 km/h - means already at v > 160 km/h exclusive tracks of bearing lengths ≥ 60 m lengths • • The current status of the particular welding technique (see "Influence of different welding processes") allows the following rule (put into effect 31.07.2002): • • • for the range of v > 230 km/h an opening for the use of factory-welded 60 m rails for the range up to 200 km/h an opening for the use of factory-welded 30 m rails With reference to an increasing freedom at the planning and execution of a site, an opening for use of rail lengths under 100 m (overall length, not bearing length). Depending on the area of application, however at the same time, to provide additional requirements on the geometric quality compared to the previously approved additional welds / rail ends. Influence of different welding processes: The quality of welds is influenced by applying next welding process, i.e.: • • stationary flash butt welds as factory welds (qualitative high quality welding); mobile flash butt welds as construction welding (metallurgical similar to the stationary welding; however smears with reference to geometric quality, similar to aluminothermy welds) aluminothermy construction welding (standard welding construction sites, which has reached in terms of welding portions and process technology a standard of quality that approaches the flash butt welding.)
